I thank everybody who made it possible for me to make the run off, leading with 42% of the vote. It took a lot of hard work by many people walking the streets, knocking on doors, donating to the campaign, making phone calls, giving moral support, and offering a bottle of cold water on a hot day. The time spent walking was rewarding in many ways, the most of which was hearing each persons concerns and hopes for the State of Louisiana and our fellow citizens. We truly need to change in a positive way, and I hope you share my desire to be an integral part of that process.
Please stay with me over the next four weeks of campaigning. I will visit with many more residents of District 76 during that time, averaging one in four home when we call. However, if we miss you, please email me at rdcanada@charter.net or call me at 985-707-6193 to share your concerns and support.
Again, Dee and I thank all of you for your prayers, support, and votes.
God bless all!

We are continually faced with a series of great opportunities brilliantly disguised as insoluble problems.
--John W. Gardner
The quote by Gardner ably describes our situation in Southeast Louisiana. We have problems with housing, insurance, extensive public and private damage yet to be repaired, an increase in homelessness, skilled labor shortages, higher equipment, material and energy costs, etc, etc. etc. They all seem so insoluble! Yet we must look at them as great opportunities to find new solutions. To start, we must regain people’s trust by implementing a strong State ethics code, with required training. We must change the expectations and demand ethical behavior. We have good government when we have transparency in government. |
